# Why we only host in the EU, and why it matters for your data

Data protection isn't only about encryption. It's also about **jurisdiction**: the country where data is stored, and the country where the provider is based, decide which authorities can ask for it.

## Our rule: EU only

Morinel is being founded in Spain and stores customer data only in data centres inside the European Union, spread across several countries for redundancy. Backups are kept in a second EU country. Nothing is copied outside the EU.

## What that gives you

- Your data is governed by the GDPR and Spanish data protection law
- No exposure to foreign laws that let authorities demand data from providers
- Simpler answers for your own customers, auditors and public tenders

Combined with [zero-access encryption](https://acme-jaret.duckdns.org/blog/what-zero-access-encryption-means), it means your most sensitive content is both out of reach and under European law. Read more on our [security page](https://acme-jaret.duckdns.org/security).
